Elshaddai Practical Ministries is a continuation of the work previously carried out by Operation Africa and as a result Christian contacts have already been made and established in South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. This is also the case through work with A.C.A.T. (Africa Co-operative Action Trust). All practical work and training will be carried out in a Christian context and will include and element of Christian Teaching and Preaching. Elshaddai’s prayer is that people will become more aware of and experience Christ’s Love for them and their need to repent of their sins and enter into a new relationship with their creator and His creation.
The good news of Jesus is shared with people at Savings Club Meetings.
The emphasis continues to be sharing the Love of Jesus through a Practical Ministry.

More details on Activities.
Self-help Community Development Programmes.

Elshaddai Practical Ministries are working with some of the poorest communities in Africa. The focus is on Practical Training designed to enable communities to run their own affairs with greater financial control and overall efficiency. People are encouraged to change their mindset around what is possible to achieve with their excisting resources.

Education and Training Programme.

Basic education and training is made available through the Savings Clubs on an area basis, in such areas as Literacy and Numeracy, Basic Book Keeping, Sewing, Candle Making and how to operate and manage savings clubs. The emphasis will be on family sustainability in terms of financial needs,
food sufficiency and environmental use of energy resource.

Sustainable Agriculture.

Where required, specialised training is offered in Deep Trench Cultivation, and basic land maintenance in order to increase crop production and therefore enable communities to work towards Agricultural Sustainability.

Entrepreneurial Development.

People are encouraged and supported to develop small income generating projects such as: Chicken Broiler Projects, Individual and Community Gardens, Net wire making, Beadwork, Candle Making, Sewing, Knitting and Baking.

Water Harvesting.

Where appropriate people are trained in Spring Protection, Digging Wells and establishing and maintaining water storage tanks.

Sanitation.

Where required Do it yourself Phunguluthu Toilets (Toilet without smell) are established and communities are trained in how to set them up and maintain them.

Basic Hygiene.

Basic Hygiene is taught at all area training to minimise the onset of disease

Community Savings Clubs.

Utilising a model previously found to be very successful through the work of A.C.A.T Savings Clubs are set-up by invitation and form the base for all development activities.
It has been found that Rural Africa Communities readily adapt to Group working in their daily activities and therefore find themselves comfortable in a savings club environment where members are encouraged to participate in-group savings.
The Savings Club Committee receives training in how to keep accurate records of all transactions.
